Our History

The firm celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2016. It represents four generations of lawyers who have been practicing in York County since 1916: Samuel S. Laucks, Sr., Samuel S. Laucks, Jr., David M. Laucks, and Suzanne E. Laucks.

Samuel S. Laucks, Sr., Esquire

Samuel S. Laucks, Sr. (1886-1955) was born in Windsor Township. He received his early education in the Windsor Township and Red Lion public schools. Attorney Laucks graduated from Ursinus College in 1910, and attended Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania for his post-graduate studies. He taught for Red Lion School District, and served as the principal from 1914-1915.

In 1916, Attorney Laucks was admitted to the York County Bar and began practicing law. Throughout his career, he also served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, as the Assistant District Attorney, and as the President of the York County Bar Association.

Attorney Laucks was very active in the local community. He served as the reception chairman for Red Lion’s Golden Jubilee in 1930, and as publicity chairman for the Diamond Jubilee in 1955. As part of that celebration, Attorney Laucks established the Progressive America Museum on the family farm in Red Lion, which showcased antique farm equipment. At the time of his death, Attorney Laucks was the president of the Red Lion Cemetery Association, and the secretary-treasurer of the Red Lion Milling Company. He was also an active member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Samuel S. Laucks, Sr., was in practice for 26 years prior to being joined by his son, Samuel S. Laucks, Jr., in 1942.

Samuel S. Laucks, Jr., Esquire

Samuel S. Laucks graduated from Red Lion Area High School in 1935, and Ursinus College in 1939. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1942. After passing the Bar Examination, he entered the United States Army during World War II and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Pacific Theatre on Okinawa.

After his military service, Attorney Laucks returned home to practice law with his father, Samuel S. Laucks, Sr. A founding member of the law firm of Laucks & Monroe in 1957, Attorney Laucks later formed the current firm of Laucks & Laucks in 1987 with his son, David. He practiced law in York County for over 60 years. He was a member of the American, Pennsylvania, and York County Bar Associations.

Attorney Laucks was a former director of Southern Pennsylvania Bank and its successor, Dauphin Deposit Bank. He served on the board of the Central Market House, and was also a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church in Red Lion. He was a 60-year member of the Red Lion Masonic Lodge #649 F&AM, a 50-year member of the Lafayette Club of York, the Red Lion Rotary Club, and the Country Club of York. He was also a member of the former Red Lion Country Club.
